Gwenny and Brad: Hollywood's newest power couple?

2.3K May 7, 2018
There were more than a few clues to suggest this wasn't any ordinary engagement party. There was the arrival of Gwyneth looking the happiest we have ever seen her (and lightly tanned after a rumoured 'hen party' in Mexico). There was Gwen's mum, Blythe Danner who was photographed clutching a bulky Monique Lhuillier dress bag (the designer is known for her stunning bridal gowns). There was the arrival of the man of the moment, producer Brad Falchuk who turned up at the Los Angeles Theatre looking every inch the gallant groom in his white tux. Practically all of Hollywood was also in attendance at this mystery party; fellow actresses Kate Hudson, Cameron Diaz, Julia Roberts, Reese Witherspoon and newly single, Jennifer Aniston partied the night away alongside Steven Spielberg, Liv Tyler and Chelsea Handler. It wasn't long before people began to realise that Gwyneth Paltrow's 'engagement party' to Brad Falchuk may, in fact, have been a secret wedding ceremony.
Valentino's Giancarlo Giammetti further fueled the rumours by posting a tribute on Instagram to the couple saying «These two beauties inside and out get engaged tomorrow!!! All my best wishes my dear @gwynethpaltrow and @bradfalchuk love you and miss not to be there with you!!!» It is worth noting at this stage that the couple actually announced their engagement last January.
It is clear that this is a couple with some serious connections to the inner circle of Tinseltown and beyond. But even so, this star-studded, 400-person bash seems unusually extravagant for the clean-living actress and her under-the-radar producer boyfriend. So why step into the limelight so conspicuously now? Could Gwyneth be rethinking her career choices? The self-confessed lifestyle guru famously side-stepped her glamorous acting career after reaching the pinnacle — winning the Oscar. She now focuses on her hugely popular lifestyle site, Goop and stars in a handful of movies if she feels like it. She admits that she has unpredictable tendencies in an interview last year about her choices.
«I have always slightly been wrestling with this punk rock a**hole kid inside me who wants to buck tradition and do things her own way. Sometimes that has landed me in hot water, but it’s all got me to where I am today.»
Brad Falchuk had had a clearer path to his ambitions. Even in high school he wore a tie to elevate his status and admitted 'I was always trying to look smart because I didn't feel smart' The screenwriter overcame dyslexia and a serious spine condition to become the co-writer and producer of hit TV show Glee and American Horror Story alongside the creator of Nip/Tuck and long-time best friend, Ryan Murphy. Those who know Brad say his star was on the rise before he even met Gwyneth — now they are indisputably Hollywood's newest power-couple. And boy, are we ready to crown another attractive celebrity couple after our collective hearts broke over the demise of Brangelina. Other contenders for that crown may have included George and Amal Clooney except for the fact that they purposely avoid everything Hollywood related. They also have very worthy ideals that, let's be honest, are not always compatible with the brash neon of Hollywood's morals. Posh and Becks are certainly up there too in terms of 'it couples' but they mostly fly the flag this side of the Atlantic.
So this coming together of an Oscar-winning actress and a so-hot-right-now Hollywood producer is what we've all been waiting for. A power-couple that seem happy to surround themselves with all the frills that Hollywood life brings. We may have scoffed at Gwyneth's bizarre recommendations to stick jade eggs into our vaginas to aid hormonal balance. And we may not always be on her wavelength when it comes to having fun (she famously told Jonathan Ross in 2014, «when I pass a flowering zucchini plant in a garden, my heart skips a beat.») but there is no denying that this trend-setter is having her own moment.  She can pick and choose the films she wants, she's never looked better and even the pretentious phrase she used for separating with her first husband, Coldplay singer Chris Martin, was launched into the mainstream and is now used as a learning tool for couples therapists. Don't make me say it, please don't make me say it.
So the conspicuous and very conscious coupling (ha) of Brad and Gwyneth have all the glittering ingredients that command and captivate fans. They will now take their rightful place on the showbiz throne. She recently described her attitude to a second marriage as something she had to do. «I have decided to give it a go again, not only because I believe I have found the man I was meant to be with, but because I have accepted the soul-stretching, pattern-breaking opportunities that (terrifyingly) are made possible by intimacy.»
So, not only is this dynamic duo uber-powerful, but they seem madly in love — which ultimately makes for the sweetest story of all.
